Uzbekistan - April 2013
I was so fortunate to be able to visit Uzbekistan while living in Moscow, Russia. I absolutely fell in love with this country. The people are warm, bright, colorful and extremely friendly. We were invited on more than one occasion to join someone in their home during our trek across the country.
Most of the country is Muslim, and the archetechure and historic buildings are stunning! I loved all of the colors, and being a former potter, I was in awe of the brillaint tilework. I hope you will enjoy this small gallery and fall in love just as I did in the spring of 2013.
Paris, France - October 2010
Paris, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and obviously my favorite place to be. I could walk the streets of Paris for the rest of my life. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of the museums, the cafes and the cathedrals.
What more can you say about this city? I loved every bit of it… well except for the cat sized rats!
Moscow, Russia - 2011 - 2013
I never, ever would had thought I would live in Russia. NEVER. At first it was painful. PAINFUL! I didn’t want to be there, I didn’t like the people and I hated the city. My second year there, I learned a bit of Russian, and I found friendships that will last a lifetime, and I fell in LOVE with Moscow. Moscow suited me perfectly. I discovered museums, I discovered the churches and I started shooting. Pure joy! The colors, the architecture! Stunning. I then learned about the people. Yes, they may seem a bit stern on the outside, but once I broke that shell, it was a completely different experience.
Libreville, Gabon 2013 - 2014
When we moved to Gabon I did not know what to expect. I was game for anything but had very few expectations. Some aspects were a wonderful surprise, but some were very difficult. It was lush, green and full of flowering trees and bushes. LOVE! The infrastructure was flawed in many ways, and we saw bits and pieces of political unrest. The people of Libreville were happy, with amazing smiles. I was privileged enough to get to visit and help one of the local orphanages. I wanted to take half of them home with me. One girl in particular touched my heart. She was beautiful. The photos of her melt me.
Home sweet home. What can I say. I'm a southern girl at heart. I have loved traveling the US and Canada just as much as I've loved my travels abroad. I still have a few states to reach, but I love how each one is unique. Currently we live in the Washington D.C. metro area, and after living in Texas for most of my life, I'm in love with the weather (much cooler than Texas) and the lush, green grass (that you can actually walk on!). I miss my home, but I'm quite smitten with the east coast as well.
Life at sea 2000 - 2006
One of my more amusing life events was the 5 1/2 years that I lived and worked on a 24/7 geological research drill ship. I worked two months on, two months off, and litterally sailed around the world. I saw and visited places I only read about in books! Guam, Japan, Bermuda, Chile, Brazil, The Azores, Portugal, Canada, Australia, Panama. I fell in love there too. I met my husband, as well as some of the most special friends a gal could ever have. Part of me misses this life too, but I have to say it's nice to be on terra firma for a while. My years living on a ship created a love for all things nautical. I now have my eyes always on the lookout for unique sea related beauty!
Japan 2000 - 2006
Absolutely adore this country. It's perfect perfectness. I have been fortunate to travel there on several occasions and each time I feel like a giant, and I fall in love more and more. Fingers crossed... more to come.
